Things to do in London
Published on: 08/12/23
As the political and cultural capital of the UK, London attracts millions of visitors each year. 2017 was a record-breaking year for tourism, with 19 million flocking to the capital to enjoy the sights and sounds. Whether you’re visiting from overseas or closer to home, there are endless ways to entertain yourself in London. You could go every weekend for the rest of your life and still find something new to do each time!
If you’re planning a city break, you’re going to want to get the most out of your time there. So what are our top picks for Things to do in London?
So many things to do, so little time! The London Eye is one of the top-rated attractions, and at 135 meters above the ground you’ll get a spectacular view over the Thames, with optional extras like champagne if you’re celebrating. For those of you on a budget, the view from the top of Primrose Hill is completely free, and you could even take a picnic to munch on while you watch the world go by. As well as the above you also have a huge list of activities and days out all over London which include Crazy Golf, VR Experience, Ghost Bus Tour, Go Karting, Paintball, Airsoft, plus much more.
With such a rich mixture of nationalities, London can offer a huge variety of dining options. If you’re after something traditionally British, head for one of the many pubs for a slap-up roast, or pie and mash if you want to live the authentic Cockney life! If it’s something more unique you’re after, go to the trendy East End for a mouth-watering array of street food in Shoreditch or Hackney.
You might be surprised to find out how many of the cultural places to go in London have free entry: National Gallery, Tate Modern, Science Museum and the British Library to name just a few. However, most do suggest making a small voluntary donation, and it’s often the case that any special exhibitions have an entry fee. You can also download one of the many self guided walks from Curious About in Trafalgar Square, Soho, Mayfair & St Paul's, so that you can make the most of your time exploring London
When it comes to nightlife, London really is a world-leader. Depending on your mood (and budget) you can get dressed up for some theatrical entertainment in the West End, tickle your funny bone at a comedy show or dance the night away at one of the many clubs. Just remember that you’ll have to book in advance for the bigger clubs like Fabric or Ministry of Sound. Another great way to spend an evening in London is taking a night sightseeing tour, to see the capital’s landmarks in a whole new light!
Something a bit different…
London is full of weird and wonderful things to do, so if you’re looking for something a bit different you’re in the right place. How about a ghost tour that tells the story of London’s most infamous serial killer, Jack the Ripper? Or for something a bit more kid-friendly, you can take a private tour of Harry Potter locations in a quintessentially British black cab.
If you want a breather from the noise and traffic, head to the beautiful woodlands of Richmond Park and see if you can spot the wild deer. We’ve have hardly scratched the surface for Things to do in London and places to go, but hopefully we’ve whetted your appetite and given you some inspiration!
