Zombie Experiences in the UK

Published on: 21/02/19

Are you a fan of horror films? Do you get a thrill from watching scary zombies chase people in the hit TV show The Walking Dead? If you’re the kind of person who hides behind their cushion, then this article is not for you!

However, if you’ve got the nerve to be chased by real-life zombies (or an actor doing a very good impression of one!) while trying to protect yourself with an Airsoft gun, then a Zombie Experience is the perfect activity for you. It basically takes the fun of an Airsoft game and the thrill of horror films and mashes them together to form a unique day out. A lot of zombie experiences in the UK are based around abandoned buildings or shopping centres, which gives the whole thing a real ‘end of the world’ vibe.

So where can you find a zombie experience in the UK?

Manchester

Zombie Uprising has several locations across the UK, including Chesterfield, Birmingham, Liverpool, Kirton in Lindsey

The biggest one is based in Manchester in an old army training facility. Appropriately named The Barracks, the event is spread over a 7-story venue with blockades, mazes and urban warfare simulation areas. Your aim is to complete a secret mission with only one gun each and limited ammo, all the time trying to avoid infection from the zombie horde. As you’d expect from such a large venue, it can accommodate groups of up to 40 people, or you can just book a place for you and your friends. They welcome stag and hen parties and even have some special tricks up their sleeve for the bride or groom to be!

Liverpool

Zombie Experiences also have loads of options and locations to choose from – but real horror fans won’t be able to resist their Asylum experience in Liverpool. Zombies are roaming the halls of a disused asylum, and you must go on a rescue mission to find the troops trapped inside. There are also rumours of a cure hidden somewhere inside, but are they true? You’ll be armed with replica weapons with the option to upgrade to a semi-automatic pistol for an additional cost.

Essex

The Last Survivors have 2 locations. The first 1 is in Essex, and is set up in a real Ex Government Secret Nuclear Bunker, which is 125ft underground and pitch black inside, with nearly 10ft thick solid concrete walls. The Nuclear Bunker was built to house over 600 people, and set over 3 floors it features offices, generator rooms, a radio station and an infirmary, all of which are still functioning.

The second loaction is in Slough, and is an Expansive Medical Facility, set over 4 floors featuring offices, laboratories, research stations and a basement level. The entire facility is set within a secure compound and will see you entering through the 80k sq foot Manor House to gain access to the attached Laboratories.

Nottingham

Now this really is for hardcore zombie fans – can you survive a night in the forest?

Zombie Infection run a 6-hour event that sends you into a 5-acre forest with just a bag on your back and basic supplies. With zombies creeping around in the dark, you’ll need to set up a base camp, survive the cold and dark and find your way back to base, all while avoiding infection. Players must have basic camping skills and be fit and healthy – as their website says, this is not a game!

Plus they also have other locations all over the UK, which include

  • The Mansion, Nottingham
  • The Asylum, Liverpool
  • The Ship, Holywell
  • The Shopping Centre, Milton Keynes
  • The Factory, Sheffield
  • The Courtyard, Birmingham

We’ve only just scratched the surface of the amazing and award-winning zombie experiences on offer around the UK, but this hopefully gives you a taster of what’s available. Live-action Airsoft events are hugely popular right now, and don’t show any signs of slowing down, so keep an eye out for companies opening a new venue near you.
