Whether you’re lucky enough to have six weeks of summer holidays stretching out in front of you, or whether you’re like the Let’s Go Out elves, beavering away with just a few snatched minutes’ break when the boss is at lunch (we joke, of course!), there’s something about long, bright days that get our adventure juices flowing. In fact, there must be something in the water, as this week, we’re paddling up to north Wales for some crashing, plummeting, white-water fun.

Located in the heart of the picturesque town of Llangollen, north Wales, Whitewater Active specialise in delivering thrilling water-based activities for a huge range of ages, activities and experience (including none!). With all equipment, briefing, training and leading included, their friendly and experienced team are passionate about ensuring participants leave smiling from ear to ear! There’s almost too many activities to list, but, hardy souls that we are, we’re going to give it a try:

Whitewater Rafting

A 2 & 1/2 hours, 4km guided trip down the River Dee in Llangollen, one of the best rivers in the UK to raft on, guarantees adrenaline-filled fun for everyone. Once kitted up and fully briefed, you’ll be transported to the picturesque Horseshoe Falls. With rapids ranging over 3 levels of intensity, you can choose ranges such as Serpents Tail, Tombstones, and Town Falls. Family members keeping their feet dry can enjoy great views of you rafting the waves from Langollen Bridge.

River Bugging

This was new to us, too! River Bugs are small inflatable crafts with an inflatable tube at each side and an inflatable back rest. Sitting upright between the tubes or lying on your front, navigate the river (or rapids!) using swim mitts to paddle. A fantastic introduction to this fun activity, choose from the introductory River Bugs- or take it up a dare-level to River Bugs Extreme!

Gorge Walking

Fully kitted out in wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets, experience an exhilarating adventure full of thrills and spills, which will leave you wanting more! Available as half day taster or full-on full day sessions, you’ll follow the water, sliding over beautiful slabs of rock into clear pools beneath beautiful Welsh waterfalls. A variety of trips to suit all abilities, from family days out to adrenaline seekers.

Canyoning

The next step (literally) from gorge walking, canyoning is a must for all adrenaline adventure seekers. Abseil down huge waterfalls and experience the highest jumps in stunning locations on this full day thrill-packed mission in deepest Snowdonia.

Situated in one of the best locations in the UK for open canoeing, it’d be rude not to take advantage! You can choose from taster and beginner sessions, focussed on teaching you the basics, playing games and having a fun time. Or take an Aqueduct Canoe trip over UNESCO world heritage site, Pontcysyllte aqueduct. The team also offer skills sessions, weekend courses, including comfortable B&B in their own “Riverbanc” centre. Climbing & Abseiling

Whether you've done it before or fancy having a go for the very first time, Whitewater Active have the rock climbing adventure for you. Scale the ice sculpted limestone scarp of Eglwyseg towering over the Vale of Llangollen, Valley Crucis Abbey, and the mysterious castle of Dinas Bran. Enjoy unbeatable summit views before descending in a thrilling abseil.
