Days Out in Nottingham

Published on: 27/03/22

Set among rolling countryside, Nottingham has earned a reputation as a great ‘day trip’ city, with a bit of everything: a castle, parks, excellent shopping and restaurants, monuments and museums covering topics from crime and justice to local industries. Compact and cultural, it’s also famed for its vibrant night-life, the perfect place to take in a pub-crawl without wearing out your feet!

Step outside the city centre and you’re on the doorstep of legendary landscapes to saunter, adventure cycle or climb in. Find legendary adventure exploring Robin Hood’s haunts in Sherwood Forest, or dramatic history in the county’s many historic halls and houses. You’re guaranteed to find something to put a smile on the face of even the grumpiest Sherriff of Nottingham!

The Original Nottingham Ghost Walk

Book Now

The nights might be getting lighter, but strolls still don’t come spookier than this! One of the country’s oldest ghost walks, the Original Nottingham Ghost Walk is a fascinating and chilling storytelling tour around the city’s ancient Castle Quarter. Perfect entertainment for the whole family (brave souls aged 12 and over), each walk covers about half a mile over a leisurely 90 minutes to 2 hours. Make the most of longer evenings and warmer temperatures to stroll in comfort and see even more, before your walk culminates in ancient caves below the 15th century Ye Olde Salutation pub- perfect for restoring jangled nerves!

The team have also created special Children's Walks, ideal for younger customers (and mum and dad who don’t want to admit it!) With some of the adult content removed, the walks are packed with reassuringly appropriate extra stories, as well as 'Horrible Histories' inspired educational content. Private tours can also be booked- if you dare!

Go Ape Sherwood Pines

Book Now

If you’re near Nottingham, you don’t need an excuse to unleash your inner Robin Hood at Go Ape Sherwood Pines’ leafy hideout, with scream-tastic sweeping views over 3000 acres of stunning woodland. Unleash the kids (or your inner one!) onto Treetop Adventure’s two loops of crossings, slippery stepping stones, and high-rise tree top platforms, tackling the flying carpet before zip-wiring back to earth. Treetop Adventure Plus maxes the thrills, with 11 additional longer, wobblier, harder crossings, a climbing wall and a thrilling 100m zip finale!

Test yourself as you climb, swing, and charge through the challenging set of high ropes obstacles on the Treetop Challenge course, and prepare to scream as the tandem zip wire speedometer can hit 20 mph- who will reach the finish line first? Thanks to adjustable difficulty levels, this course always feels fresh, every visit. It’s also one of only three locations you’ll find Nets Adventure, a super-springing playtime wonderland that will make you feel as though you're bouncing in the clouds with no specialist equipment required to keep you safe as tree houses. Ground-based spectators are welcome, with picnic benches, a Forest Café and free wifi for posting those amazing pictures. Or hop on to an all-terrain Forest Segway and explore the varied terrain and beautiful woodlands. Decisions, decisions…
