Best Assault Courses UK

Published on: 28/05/19

The popularity of assault courses and obstacle course races has exploded over the past decade, with everyone you know testing their skills and stamina and posting a muddy selfie on Facebook. Why are they so popular? Perhaps it’s because most of us have day jobs that require us to sit behind a desk and not move much, or maybe it’s just human nature to want to get outdoors and get grubby!

Whatever the reason, you’re spoilt for choice for assault courses in the UK. Whether you’re looking for a boot camp experience or something you can do with the kids in the Summer holidays, check out our pick of courses from around the UK.

The Playground, Suffolk

Set in 5 acres of rolling East Anglian countryside, the assault course at The Playground takes you round a 1km course with 25 obstacles, including walls and ditches. Test your upper body strength on the incline/decline monkey bars and climb a notoriously tricky cargo net. The course is suitable for ages 7 and up, and they also host Boot Camp sessions as well as catering for hen and stag dos.

Taff Valley Assault Course, near Cardiff

The ‘ultimate woodland assault course’ can be found just a few miles outside of Cardiff at Taff Valley Assault Course, and will really put your fitness and endurance to the test as you transport vital supplies along the 2km course. So not only will you and your team be faced with crossing streams, swinging over mud pits and keeping your balance on various poles and beams, you’ll have to make sure the supplies get across too!

Totally Wiped Out, Sheffield

We couldn’t do an article on obstacle courses without featuring at least one homage to Total Wipe Out! Billing itself as the ‘funniest team event in South Yorkshire’, Totally Wiped Out aims to make you laugh as well as test your fitness, with a charismatic compere to get you and your team in the party mood. This would be the perfect option for a birthday party or stag/hen, with silly inflatable challenges and comedy moments running pretty much every Saturday from spring to autumn.

Time to get out from behind that desk, book your obstacle course day out and put your skills to the test!
