RHS Whalton Manor Gardens
Originally designed by Edwin Lutyens with planting influenced by Gertrude Jekyll, this romantic 1.2ha (3 acre) walled garden features terraces and stone summer houses. There is also a vegetable garden, a shrubbery and an additional area of woodland, which is especially beautiful during the bluebell season, and opened to the public for the first time in 2021.

The main seasons of interest are late spring and summer since the planting is mainly herbaceous. However, the garden and beautiful stone-built manor house, surrounded by rolling countryside, continue to charm throughout the seasons. Spring awakens the borders packed with bulbs and the colourful shrubbery, which was planted about 20 years ago. Hundreds of roses bloom from early June until December, some in formal beds but most are part of the herbaceous borders. All the borders have their own special characteristics and include peonies, nepeta, iris and shrub rose borders.
