RHS Attadale Gardens
Started by Baron Schroder in the late 19th century, hill paths meander through 20 acres of conifers and rhododendrons. Totally transformed after the 1980 storms by owner Nicky Macpherson, it is now a painter's garden designed to frame the views of Skye and the surrounding hills.
A wide variety of rhododendrons are scattered throughout, some more than 100 years old – the rhododendron dell is a must-see. Visitors will also find a Japanese garden with raked gravel, cloud-pruned hedges, dwarf conifers and Japanese maples.

Waterfalls, Monet bridges, Meconopsis, bamboo and candelabra primulas are reflected in dark pools, and sculpture lurks in unexpected places scattered through the garden. Major Meconopsis and fern collections of more than 2,000 trees have been planted over 20 years and the water gardens stretch out along the drive, highlighted by spectacular plantings of Gunnera, Meconopsis and Himalayan primrose.
