Curious About... Kendal
Explore Kendal town centre with two self-guided heritage walks with a treasure hunt theme. Discover Kendal's "hidden treasures" whilst having a fun day out with family and friends!
Kendal, the southern gateway to the Lake District with its unusual network of lanes (or Yards), has been famous for its production of snuff since 1792. It is also home to Kendal Mint Cake, accompanying Sir Edmund Hilary on the first successful ascent of Everest in 1953.
It has its own version of the Bayeux Tapestry - the Quaker Tapestry, as well as being the inspiration for the children’s character Postman Pat. One remarkable resident was Alfred Wainwright, world-renowned for his glorious guides to the Lakeland fells.
