Cornwall Swimming Horses is based in Penzance, Cornwall, and offers a professional and friendly team to help you have a great time and enjoy the experiences available.
The Cornwall Swimming Horses live as a herd in the beautiful rambling fields and woodlands that overlook Mounts Bay and surround ‘The Peep Out Training Yard’. We use our local beach at Long Rock with the iconic and stunning St Michael’s Mount as the backdrop to swim in the sea at high tide and have exhilarating beach rides for experienced riders at low tide.
Swimming with horses is a unique and unusual experience, at once exciting, beautiful, mystical, therapeutic and fun. Our herd are fully trained to swim in the bay. Riders and non riders, young and old, fit and unfit, can all benefit from this amazing experience as each swim is tailored to it’s riders needs and requests and each horse is accompanied by its own CSH trained handler.

Cornwall Swimming Horses specialise in providing bespoke riding experiences for experienced riders. Experienced riders can come here and have a ride, either one to one, or in a small group (4 clients maximum) and enjoy the freedom that usually only comes with riding your own horse. We define 'experienced rider' as someone who is comfortable and confident when riding horses that are independent thinkers, rather than 'nose to tail' horses.
We do not need you to have schooling or jumping experience nor do you need any qualifications, simply a relaxed approach to riding and an ability to communicate easily, clearly and safely with your mount in open spaces. This can include good steady happy hackers, you don't have to be speed freaks, but if you are, we can cater for that too. Please note all our horses are very froward going and need to be ridden. They don't just take passengers.
All riders are initially assessed in the sand school before leaving the yard to ensure we’ve got you on the right mount. But from the word ‘go’ we have a very informal approach. We chat with you beforehand to find out what type of riding you are hoping for to ensure you get that bespoke experience.

Beginners, speak of the sheer enjoyment of riding a horse without the fear of falling off. Falling off in the sea is just another way to have fun and build confidence. Experienced riders have been amazed at the behaviour and manners of our ‘Swimming Horses’ as they ride bareback to the beach.
They enjoy the swimming then move on to circus style antics, standing on horseback, riding two horses at a time, with the sea as their safety net. Special needs riders and those suffering with long term illnesses, have benefited from the therapeutic impact of swimming alongside these amazing sentient animals. We can tailor the experience to be as gentle as required.
Families can take advantage of our Family Friendly Swims. This provides 2 horses for 4 people and the whole family get to share their swimming horses, sometimes riding 2 up in the sea, sometimes having fun with tail towing.
