What could be more fun than building your very own man-made shelter to hide in?
Betteshanger’s woodland makes the perfect shelter building environment. Our instructor-led activity teaches people about the natural environment and utilises planning, problem-solving, spacial awareness, creativity and leadership skills.
Working as a team you’ll construct a shelter using wooden poles, tarpaulins and rope. You’ll get to test your finished shelter to see if it will survive the elements.

Thanks to our heritage as a former colliery, the Betteshanger site is bursting with fossils. You’ll find plenty of fossils either lying on top of the spoil heap or by digging down into the spoil. You’ll most likely find plant remains and arthropod fragments, such as Calamites, Lepidodendron and Neuropteris.
We’ve set the bar pretty high for future fossil digs, one intrepid hunter was lucky enough to find the remains of a rare, large millipede-like, arthropod fossil. So now it’s over to you

Players divide into two teams and hide behind inflatable bunkers. The aim of the game is to be the first team to knock out the centres of a 5 spot target on the opponent’s side of the field.

From the top of the Park, you’ll get panoramic views towards Sandwich and its world-renowned golf courses, Ramsgate and the Thanet Offshore Windfarm.
We run seasonal self-led trails throughout the year. Please check our events section for the latest trail.
