Bonfire Night Party Ideas

Bonfire Night is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some classic winter warmers like sausage casseroles, cheese fondue with crusty bread, and anything stewed with dumplings! If you’re hosting a party, cook up a massive pot of chilli and serve with corn bread muffins – it’s an easy way to feed a gang of people and so filling and tasty.

Apparently, there is even an official Bonfire Night pudding called Parkin Cake. It’s a sticky mix of oatmeal, ginger, treacle and syrup. Yum!

Get together with your community

It’s so much safer and easier to go to an organised bonfire party, rather than trying to get a decent fire lit in your back garden. There’s nothing like gathering round an impressive bonfire with your friends and neighbors, all wrapped up against the cold and enjoying the spectacle.

If you’re new to an area it’s a great way of getting to know people, and even if you’ve lived somewhere for a while there’s bound to be people you haven’t met before. So go out there and get involved, and see if the organisers need any volunteers while you’re at it!

Drink something a bit different

Why not elevate your usual hot chocolate by making it Mexican – buy some good quality dark chocolate and slowly heat in a pan with some milk and vanilla, then whisk and add some cinnamon, nutmeg or allspice. Delicious! You could also try a hot apple cider (a favourite of our American cousins) or a hot toddy (adults only!) If you’re heading out to a fireworks display take some flasks with hot drinks to warm you up from the inside out.

Don’t forget to look after your pets!

Our furry friends are definitely not fans of Bonfire Night, what with the noise and flashes of fireworks. Don’t take your dogs for an evening walk if you know there are going to be fireworks going off; try and take them in daylight if possible.

Create a safe environment for your pet by closing all curtains and doors, and maybe make a hiding place for them with spare blankets and towels. Keep cats in overnights as they might run off and get lost if startled by flashes and bangs.The RPSCA has some more good advice on their website.
