Northampton, nestled in the heart of the East Midlands, offers a myriad of activities to suit every taste. History enthusiasts can explore the impressive Northampton Cathedral, steeped in centuries of history, or wander through the historic remnants of Northampton Castle.

Art aficionados will delight in the city's vibrant cultural scene, with must-visit spots like the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery showcasing both contemporary and classical artwork. For those seeking outdoor adventures, the nearby Northamptonshire countryside provides opportunities for hiking, cycling, and serene countryside walks. Foodies will relish the eclectic culinary scene, from traditional British gastropubs serving hearty meals to chic bistros offering gourmet dishes.

And no visit to Northampton would be complete without experiencing its renowned shoe heritage; visit the Northampton Museum's Shoe Collection or take a tour of one of the city's historic shoe factories. Whether exploring its rich history, enjoying the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside, indulging in culinary delights, or immersing oneself in its unique cultural heritage, Northampton promises an unforgettable experience for all who visit.

Fun Activities

If you’re looking for a fun activity to get your adrenalin pumping, head to Northampton Active. There is an amazing 300-metre white water course, which was the UK’s first artificial white water course. Because the waves are man-made, the speed of the water can be controlled to suit different abilities. Take your pick from Whitewater Rafting, Tubing or even Raft Building and High Ropes Course. Or if you prefer to be on dry land, why not hire a bike at Stanwick Lakes and explore 750 acres of country parks. Northampton can offer a huge list of activities and days out.

Eating Out

According to the locals, the best afternoon tea on offer in Northampton can be found in the Beckworth Emporium, but be aware that you will probably have to queue for a seat! If you’re a burger lover then get yourself down to 81 Hamburger Heaven, a Northampton institution. The original American-style diner on London Road in the town centre. One of the delicacies on the menu is fries topped with a runny cheese sauce (we’re sure that tastes much better than it sounds!)

Culture Vulture

If you like a luxury cinema experience, the Errol Flynn Filmhouse is right up your street. Named after the actor Errol Flynn who joined the Northampton Rep acting company before finding fame in Hollywood, the 2-screen cinema has deluxe leather seats, gourmet snacks and drinks served in proper glassware. All very fancy! The Abington Park Museum is also a bit of a hidden gem, but you can enjoy free entry to the local historic and military exhibitions, and the park hosts local art and craft fairs too.

After Dark

Music fans who like their tunes on the heavy side will love a night out at King Billy Rock Bar, a long-time favourite with bikers and rockers hosting live music all year round. If you prefer your music a little cheesier then you’re definitely better off going to Retro Bar on Bridge Street, famed for cheap and cheerful fun and retro tunes.

Something a bit different…

How about putting your foot to the floor and racing around the home of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone? A short drive out of the town centre, you can enjoy rally driving experiences on the only Formula 1 track in the UK, from an hour up to a full day. If that’s not challenging enough for you, you can test your drifting skills or learn how to execute the perfect handbrake turn on their stunt driving experience.

As you can see there is loads of Things to do in Northampton, and with all of the sights and sounds of a place twice its size. Definitely one to check out this year, so plan your trip now!
