The original building was built back in 1877, and once controlled the entrance to Glasgow's famous Queen's Dock – where Scotch whisky exports leaft Glasgow bound for the rest of the world. The Queen's Dock was one of the largest commercial docks in the UK, and allowed Glasgow to become one of its main shipping cities.
