Days Out in Brighton

Published on: 02/08/21

As the seaside town it has been a popular destination for day-trippers since Georgian times, especially for visitors from nearby London. These days, Brighton enjoys a reputation of being a young, quirky and artistic city, with a thriving LBGT scene that’s resulted in it being named Britain’s unofficial gay capital. If you’re looking for city break that includes strolling along the beach, then Brighton Beach is a great choice. Read on for our guide to Days Out in Brighton.

Fun Activities

To really appreciate the sea views, you’ve got to have a head for heights! Take a trip on the world’s first vertical cable car on the British Airways i360, which transports you 450ft into the air, giving you 360-degree views of the city and coastline. If you’ve got kids to entertain they’ll love the fascinating aquatic creatures on display at the Sea Life Centre, including turtles, sharks and rays. As well as this you also have GloBalls Crazy Glow in the Dark Golf, and Q-Leisure just down the road which can offer you a whole list of activities, which include Go Karting, Axe Throwing, Archery, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Assault Rifles Shooting, Archery Tag and Paintball.

Eating Out

As you’re by the sea it would be rude not to try one of the many seafood restaurants serving fresh catches in Brighton, such as The Regency and Riddle & Finns. Veggies are also well-served here, with exclusively vegetarian restaurants that have been established for decades like Food for Friends and the award-winning Terre a Terre. As you’d expect from such a progressive place, eateries in Brighton are ahead of the game when it comes to using home-grown ingredients – some even churn their own butter!

Culture Vulture

Fans of detective shows will be fascinated by the history on display at the Old Police Cells museum, which explores historical murders and has some fantastic examples of graffiti from the Mods and Rockers rivalry in the 60s. If architecture is more your thing then you really need to visit the stunning Royal Pavilion, built for the Prince Regent in the early 19th Century and inspired by Indian buildings. The highly decorative interior is also a must-see!

After Dark

If you want to sample a local beverage, try an English wine grown in Sussex vineyards, or a famous Brighton Gin. If you’re averse to too much planning, a guided bar crawl could be the perfect night out! On the Rocks takes you around five bars and clubs and your ticket included five shots and fast-track entry (it could get messy!) You could also try your luck at the legendary Grosvenor Casino right on the beachfront, which is open 24 hours and is the perfect place to test your roulette, blackjack and poker skills.

Something a bit different…

Do you feel like you don’t laugh enough? They do say it’s the best medicine, and at Laugh Alive you can learn how to do it properly, with workshops on mindful laughter and laughter yoga designed to energise you and release stress and tension. Randomly, they also pair these workshops with sessions on chocolate making. Only in Brighton! you can also download one of the many self guided walks from Curious About
