Traditional Hen Party Ideas

A lot of the traditional hen party activities tend to focus on pampering and relaxation, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Think spa days with massages and manicures, a civilized sit-down afternoon tea with gorgeous food in a country house, and of course glasses of champagne to accompany you wherever you go. If your bride is looking forward to this kind of hen party, you’ll be spoilt for choice for available venues in the UK. Another popular choice is some kind of tutored activity with an expert, such as a cocktail class or jewellery making session. These are all great ways of helping the group to bond and get to know each other before the wedding.

Novelty Hen Party Ideas

There’s nothing wrong with the traditional hen do activities, but to have a truly unforgettable time you need to think outside the box! Modern hen parties are opting for more adventurous activities, so why not try one of the following?

White Water Rafting is a surefire way of getting that adrenalin pumping! Luckily as we live on an island we’re surrounded by water, so plenty of opportunities for some watery adventures. Or if you’d rather keep your hair dry, how about a Zip Line course? There are specialist venues all over the country where you can fly down a zip wire and even race your friends down multi-wire descents over breathtaking scenery.

If you’re looking for something a little less physical, Escape Rooms are a hugely popular choice for hen parties. Every town in the UK now seems to have at least one Escape Room adventure ready and waiting, and there’s a mind-boggling range of themes to choose from. They all have one thing in common: the aim is to escape a locked room within 60 minutes by solving various clues and puzzles.

Who should I invite to the hen?

Hen parties are usually a strange mix of school friends, family, and work colleagues, and it would be impossible for you to know who to invite without consulting the bride -to-be. The whole point of the party is to make sure that the bride has a good time, so best to leave the guest list up to them. But bear in mind how tricky it would be to keep track of a group of 30 ladies, or find suitable activities and accommodation, so keep an eye on numbers. The average number of people on a hen is 13, which seems a sensible number to us!

When should I start to plan the hen party?

The average length of time that couples are engaged before tying the knot is 20 months, which gives you plenty of time to organise the hen party. The first thing to do is confirm the date of the wedding! Then ask the bride when they’d like to hold the get-together and pick some dates for people in the group to check their availability. The key is not to give people too many options or you’ll be going back and forth for weeks! If you manage to find a date that everyone can attend, that’s great, but don’t be surprised if there’s a few people that are hard to please. Peak season for hen and stags is May – July, so bear that in mind when it comes to booking accommodation and activities. As with most events in life, it’s never too early to start planning.

What should I do next?

Get excited! You’re about to start planning a fantastic party for your best friend that she’ll remember for years to come. Being chosen to be someone’s Maid of Honour is hugely flattering – she’s trusting you to arrange a send-off to mark the end of her life as a single woman. But don’t feel like you have to plan the party to end all parties all by yourself! Make sure you ask for help when you need it.
