Winter Wonderlands outside of London

Published on: 20/12/18

When you hear the phrase ‘Winter Wonderland’, most of us automatically think of the annual event at Hyde Park in London, with the Ferris wheel, ice skating rink and Christmas market. But did you know that there’s festive adventures happening outside of London too? Here’s our selection of the five best Winter Wonderlands to be found in the rest of the UK.

Santa's Winter Wonderland, SnowDome

What better place to recreate a wintery wonderland than in the frosty snowy interior of Tamworth’s SnowDome? Their Winter Wonderland has been attracting visitors for 14 years, so they must know what they’re doing! There’s a Christmas pantomime, live reindeer (and other furry friends in the Animal Village) and of course lots of real snow to recreate a home from home for Santa himself.

Magical Winter Wonderland, Twinlakes Park

As well as the year-round rides and attractions, Twinlakes Park ramps up the seasonal fun at this time of year with a Santa’s Grotto and reindeer feeding. There’s also a chance to try your hand at decorating gingerbread and even hunting a snowman! The entry fee includes a gift from Santa, and if you’re there at the weekend you can also enjoy the fireworks display.

Winter Wonderland, Wookey Hole

Here’s something a bit different – Santa in an actual grotto! The Wookey Hole caves in Somerset are the somewhat unlikely venue for festive fun, but they’ve got a lot to see and do.

It boasts 20 different attractions, including cave illuminations, a Christmas circus, and even moving dinosaurs! If you run out of time to see them all on your visit, they allow you a return visit absolutely free. With a hotel on site too, they offer packages including overnight stays and breakfast, to help you really make the most of your visit.

Winter Funland, Manchester

Head to Event City in the Trafford Centre, Manchester, to experience their take on a Winter Wonderland. Unlike the one in Hyde Park, there is an entrance fee, but kids under 3 go in free and all the rides and attractions are included in the cost.

Visit Santa in his grotto, say hello to some live reindeer, and what would Christmas be without a fun festive pantomime? For parents, the best thing will be the plentiful free parking on offer, so there really is something for everyone!

Set in the award-winning Telford Town Park, Winter Wonderland is a sell-out every year so the only way to guarantee entry is to book online. Santa’s grotto is a cute log cabin, and there’s also a mail room full of busy elves to visit. There’s a winter carousel and sleigh ride too, and plenty of festive food on offer from winter warmers like soups and hot chocolate to the ever-popular chips and nuggets! Wonderland Midlands also discounts on offer for those that work in the NHS and Armed Forces.

With so many Winter Wonderlands dotted around the UK, you’ll be spoilt for choice. It leaves us wondering how Santa manages to get to them all? Must be magic…
