According to award-winning go kart racer Piers Prior, the UK is renowned around the world as a great place for go karting, with it’s tight, technical and twisty circuits. We are definitely spoilt for choice in the UK when it comes to go karting venues. Whether you’re looking for indoor or outdoor tracks, for time trials or just for fun, we’ve got the 5 top places right here.
Whilton Mill, Northamptonshire
The team at Whilton Mill has been specialising in kart racing since 1991 and have added to their collection of tracks over the years, the most recent being the 1150m International Circuit in 2007. A favourite with owner drivers, this circuit is known for being very physically demanding – the advice is to wear rib protectors! But there’s more to just karting on this 100-acre site – you can also enjoy Quad Biking and Clay Pigeon Shooting!
Buckmore Park, Kent
Bought by the 7-time Motorcycle World Champion and Ferrari Formula 1 World Champion John Surtees in 2015, this go karting venue has seen some major investment in recent years. Now managed by his daughter Leonora, Buckmore Park has a big vision for kart racing in the UK. For experienced go karters this is 1000m of technical circuit you can really get your teeth stuck into! For those just starting out they have loads of open race events to suit all levels of experience.
Cumbria Kart Racing Club
If you’re not afraid of a bit of bad weather, the Cumbria Kart Racing circuit built in an old quarry will reward you with some fantastic hairpin corners. The site is run by a team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers, who are the perfect people to introduce you to karting if you’ve never done it before. You’ll be racing in the footsteps of motorsports legends like David Coulthard, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton - all of whom visited Rowrah during their karting careers.
Glan-y-Gors, North Wales
Known in the kart racing community as G.Y.G Karting, this legendary circuit has been called the best in the UK. Racing along the 1,100m track you’ll encounter hills and corners aplenty, including the notorious ‘Devil’s Elbow’!
They host both sprint and endurance race events, and have some great packages on offer for corporate days out and stag/hen dos.
Clay Pigeon Kart Club, Dorset
The circuit at Clay Pigeon Kart Club might be shorter than others at 800m, it offers a great opportunity for practicing close racing and cambered corners. They have a full race calendar of events throughout the year and encourage spectators to join in the fun.
