Quad Biking Near Me

Published on: 17/08/18

My first Quad Biking experience was a gift from my brother; he’d done some research and found a venue for quad biking near me through www.LetsGoOut.co.uk. I’d never been quad biking before, so I was excited and nervous at the same time, with all these thoughts running through my head; Will I be any good? Will I enjoy it? How fast do the quad bikes go? What if I fall off?

'The good news is I’m still here to tell the tale! I’d always wanted to go quad biking and now I’ve finally done it, I would recommend it to anyone'

Our Quad Bike Safari Day

My brother and I arrived at Avalanche Adventure, which is near to Market Harborough in Leicestershire. We were introduced to our instructor, who went to get our Honda 250cc petrol quad bikes ready while we had a cup of coffee to settle our nerves!

We got kitted out with overalls and helmets (a must) and decided to not bother with the gloves as it was such a nice day - this was a mistake. As we soon found out! Before we got on the quad bikes we were instructed how to operate and ride them safely and make the most of our day out.

We set off on the 2-hour ride, and as luck would have it there were just ourselves and the instructor on our safari, so we didn’t have to worry about making mistakes

We followed her around the circular practice track in an open field, to get a feel for the Honda’s controls, practice turning, and learning to keep a good distance from each other to avoid crashing, once the instructor was happy that we’d got the basics, it was time to go off-road!

Off-Road Quad Biking

This was the really fun bit – going into the woods for a proper off-road quad bike experience, for this part of the course we were advised to stay in 3rd gear, but on the straighter sections we could change into 4th and 5th gear and get some speed!

The off-road track was wet on the day, so very bumpy and quite hard to negotiate, after about 20 minutes of going steadily around the course, I was aching all over from holding on to the quad bike for dear life! My thumbs were sore from constantly using the throttle, so maybe the gloves would have been a good idea after all…

Round Two – Harder Terrain

I remember thinking ‘I’ve got over another hour of this, and how am I going to cope?!’ but luckily it was time for a coffee break. This was a great opportunity to chat with our instructor and get her tips and advice on riding the petrol quad bikes.

After the break my brother and I both felt a lot more relaxed and confident, and our instructor decided we’d got the hang of the quads enough to pick up the pace. My improved throttle control was a relief for my aching thumbs!

The terrain got more challenging and we increased our speed, we even lost our instructor a couple of times in the dense woods

So it was a good job we had horns on the bikes to attract her attention! We were having a great time racing around and I only crashed into the back of my brother’s quad bike once (he was not impressed)

Time was running out, so the instructor took us back to the practice track for one last bit of fun – a speed trial! She set off at full speed and we had to try and keep up, going through all the gears and reaching speeds of 42kph. This may not sound fast, but when you’re holding onto a quad for dear life, it feels very fast, but great fun! We spent the last part of the day flying around tight bends, tanking it down straights, racing thought the gears, and negotiating a course set out with tires. We felt like proper quad biking pros!

Planning Our Next Trip

To finish the day, we took some photos for Avalanche Adventure Facebook page, had a final cup of coffee and reflected on a great adventure. My brother and I are already planning to go again, and we’ll be inviting more family and friends with us next time.
