Favourably away from the Lake District’s crowds and queues, the ‘hidden gem’ of North Lancashire is within comfortable travelling distance of South Lancashire, Cumbria, and East Yorkshire. Queen of the area is Leighton Hall, Carnforth’s 750-year-old grand estate with a foot in the past, but forward-looking with plenty of modern amenities and attractions.

Packed with intrigue and adventure, inside and out, you’re promised a warm welcome at Leighton Hall. With generations of history, beautiful gardens, exciting birds of prey, and children’s activities, there’s plenty for all the family to enjoy, and new discoveries to uncover, every time.

History and Heritage

Still very much a lived-in family home to descendants of the legendary Gillow furniture-making dynasty, Leighton is famed for its friendly guides. Certainly NOT a museum, an entertaining tour around the hall where nothing is ‘roped off’ means you can sit on the furniture, climb the gravity-defying ‘flying staircase’ and even tinkle the ivories of the grand piano in the Music Room. With visitors invited to become ‘one of the family, children are encouraged to ask questions, touch things, and really get involved.

Room for Everyone to let off Steam

With acres of outdoor space, youngsters can run off lockdown energy across the park, where’s there’s always something new to discover: the caterpillar maze, playground, mini beasts, brass rubbings, tree face trail, woodland walk, Insect hotel, fascinating new bee corner, and breath-taking birds of prey displays (Summer season only - weather permitting).

Leighton’s woodland walks and historic herb, walled, and ornamental vegetable gardens are set against the dramatic backdrop of the spectacular Lakeland fells. With new emphasis on planting for sustainability, self-sufficiency, and supporting native species, plenty of seating allows visitors choosing a more leisurely pace to sit in comfort as you soak up inspiration.
