Halloween

Published on: 10/10/20

Halloween is fast becoming one of the most popular holidays in the UK, merging with our growing appetite for horror films and anything with zombies or vampires in! It seems that us uptight Brits are loving dressing up and playing with make up almost as much as our American cousins, with millions of pounds being spent every year on costumes and decorations.

And with half term approaching, what better way to keep the kids entertained than with some scarily good fun? From themed laser tag and crazy golf to walking tours and haunted shopping centres, here are some ideas of how to celebrate Halloween this year.

The Original Nottingham Ghost Walk

The Original Nottingham Ghost Walk has been going since the early 90s, when it was started by a local psychic medium, Jenny Bright, and her husband Dr David Cross. The city that’s famous for the legend of Robin Hood and a 10th century castle has quite a grisly past that makes it the perfect place for a ghost walk.

At this time of year when the evenings are dark, the walks are even more spooky and atmospheric! Halloween is their busiest time of year, and people even dress up to go along on the walks - scary and quirky costumes are more than welcome! Join in on one of the multiple group walks held over Halloween (there are 3 walks scheduled for the night of 31st October itself) or you can book a private tour.

The ghost walks are a great way to see a different side of historic Nottingham. Whether you’re a visitor or someone that’s lived there for years, you’re sure to find out something new from these expert storytellers.

Enigma Rooms Halloween, Middlesbrough

This Halloween, Enigma Rooms have teamed up with a local shopping centre to give fright fans an unforgettable escape room experience! The shopping centre was built on the site of a former castle, which is believed to be haunted. Part of the building has been abandoned for over 40 years – what better place for a nerve-jangling pop up escape room?

Rumour has it the building has been marked for demolition, and the ghosts are NOT happy. Are you brave enough to enter and release the spirits from the veil? There is limited availably so if this sounds like your idea of fun, get your session booked in ASAP.

Trapped Escape Rooms Halloween Zombie, London

Can you keep your wits about you even when trapped in a room with a hungry zombie? Trapped Escape Rooms in Stratford, London present an escape room with real bite! The room you’re trapped in hides a key to unlock the door, which you must find by locating clues and solving puzzles. Sounds easy, right? But there’s a twist – every five minutes the chain holding a hungry zombie will be released by a foot and in 60 minutes they will be able to reach you!

Can you concentrate and focus on escaping or will you end up being eaten? This is the perfect Halloween activity for fans of The Walking Dead, Dawn of the Dead and horror fans in general. Not for the faint hearted!

GLOBALLS, Brighton Marina

GLOBALLS is a brilliant crazy golf venue in the heart of Brighton Marina, and boy do they love Halloween! Every year they transform their Jurassic mini golf course into a legendary Halloween experience. From Dracula and Frankenstein to spooky skeletons, the creepy creatures, models and decorations make the glow-in-the-dark course even more eye-popping than usual. As well as the Halloween themed course, the Tropicana golf course will also remain open with its popular jungle motif that will transport you to a tropical land.

A first for this year is that GLOBALLS will be selling their very own slushy cocktails for the October half term (October 26 - November 1). These include a Strawberry Daiquiri, Pina Colada and Margarita, amongst other adult-only alcoholic beverages. They are very excited to trial out the new bar so make sure you check it out!

Star Command, London

A gang of ghosts and ghouls are taking over Star Command’s Outpost in Stratford! They are putting on a Halloween Half Term Special that’s sure to delight little kids and big kids alike. Join in the laser tag fun and you and your friends can enjoy Halloween music, decorations and trick and treats this half term.

And for an extra treat, they are doubling your game time so you can enjoy 40 minutes of action-packed game play for the price of 20. Anyone over the age of 6 can play laser tag in this intricately designed arena, and up to 6 players can play at a time.
