Halloween Activities

There’s been nothing scary going on over the last couple of years, eh? Facing down spooks and spectres, ghosts and ghoulies might seem like a walk in the park after what we’ve come through, but experiencing a ’safe scare’ together with others has been shown to relieve stress, encourage bonding feelings, and improve mental well-being. Well, that’s something we could all do with a bit of- and there’s nothing wrong with a few jump-scares along the way!

A professional ghost walk or tour with immersive, theatre-level story-telling is a great way of enjoying some great folk-lore and scary tales, maybe learning a bit more about your own city’s history, and feeling the hairs rise on the back of your neck… Was that an unearthly scream, or was that just me?!

The Original Nottingham Ghost Walk

Strolls don’t come spookier than this! One of the country’s oldest ghost walks, The Original Nottingham Ghost Walk is a fascinating and chilling storytelling tour around the city’s ancient Castle Quarter. Perfect entertainment for the whole family (brave souls aged 12 and over), each walk covers about half a mile over a leisurely 90 minutes to 2 hours, and culminates in ancient caves below the 15th century Ye Olde Salutation pub- ideal for restoring jangled nerves! The team have also created special Children's Walks, ideal for younger customers (and mum and dad who don’t want to admit it!) With some of the adult content removed, the walks are packed with reassuringly appropriate extra stories, as well as 'Horrible Histories' inspired educational content. At this time of year when the evenings are dark, the walks are even more atmospheric, and private tours can also be booked- if you dare!

The Original Ghost Walk of York

When they say ‘original’, they mean it; The Original Ghost Walk of York is believed to be the first exclusive Ghost Walk in the World! Established in 1973, their decades of practice shine through when it comes to providing a legendary and disturbing experience. A night of history and mystery in York promises to capture the imagination, inspire the mind, and brings encounters with genuinely mysterious experiences. With a passion for entertaining, all guides are specialists, and City, County, or Equity Qualified, seamlessly combining York's history, legends, and ghost sightings in exciting tours. Public tours run nightly from The King's Arms, the famous ‘flooding pub of York’, or private tours and events can be themed for clubs, societies, schools, birthday surprises and birthday events. Famous for being genuine, authentic, and magical, dare you face your fears in York’s most haunted corners?

The York Ghost Bus Tour

Did you know that quaint York is actually Europe's most haunted city? That’s the least grisly fact you’ll learn on York’s most immersive ghost-tour, as you board the spooky vintage Necrobus for a guided moonlit tour of the darker side of the North's most picturesque city! Departing daily from York railway station, you’ll encounter all of York’s top attractions, including Clifford’s Tower, York Minster and Dick Turpin’s Grave. Delve into the city’s macabre history and its most gruesome secrets on the way as you cruise between 'Ghoulygate' (Gillygate), the 'River Ooze' (the River Ouse), and the 'Treasurer's Hearse' (Treasurer's House). For the ultimate murderously good time, dare you follow your guide on foot into the depths of the historic Shambles, before heading back to the sanctuary of the bus- or is it really so safe?

The London Ghost Bus Tour

Why walk with the undead, when you can take the bus? Ghost Bus Tours run the world’s only comedy-horror theatre show on wheels, in three historic UK cities. Tourist, visitor or local, there is so much to unearth from the darkness that has lain in secrecy throughout the ages, from royal executions to devious spirits trapped on the material plane. Starting with the capital, hop aboard London’s Necrobus- a 1960s Routemaster bus with an eerie backstory- departing daily from 8 Northumberland Avenue, close to Trafalgar Square and multiple tube stations. Expect plenty of gallows humour as you join the company of your two twisted (and very funny) guides, who will show you the hidden, the unseen, and the spectral sights of London. Your 75-minute tour will take in the demon barber of Fleet Street, the Cross Bones Graveyard of Southwark, the famous tombs of Westminster Abbey and the black dog of Newgate Prison, plus much more. You'll laugh, you'll learn, you'll scream and laugh- just avoid getting a one-way ticket…

The Edinburgh Ghost Bus Tour

Edinburgh’s Necrobus has been in public service for over a decade now, running daily haunted tours of the best of the city’s grisly landmarks. All Ghost Bus tour guides are comprised entirely of classically-trained actors, with an excellent record of high-class customer care, including the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. Edinburgh has many intriguing spirits, but for once we're not talking about Scotch! Boarding from Waverley Bridge, sit back as your charismatic conductor whisks you through Edinburgh's most brutal bits of history on an ex-funeral bus! Explore the macabre history of Edinburgh and learn about murders, witch hunts, torture and hauntings in famous sights like Edinburgh Castle, The New Town, Grassmarket, Greyfriar’s Kirk, The Old Town, Holyrood Palace and the Royal Mile. You'll soon understand why there are so many restless spirits in old Edinburgh- and after this Ghost Bus Tour you may need a dram of Scotch to settle your own!
