If you’re the sort of person that loves exploring a new place at your own pace, you’ll love the series of self-guided walks to be found on Curious About,

Curious About have self-guided walks all over the UK, and for this article we have picked Leicester, York, Aberdeen, Portsmouth, but we do have them all listed on our website. We have also featured them on our blog before as we think that this is a great idea for everyone, once we are all able to get out again to explore the UK!

We like the fact that the walks are thoughtfully designed to show you not just the obvious landmarks and tourist attractions, but unusual, quirky and intriguing ones too. Rob and Sue, who started the company, aim to show people the true personality of the places they’re visiting, whether they’ve got a whole weekend or just a couple of hours.

On the website you can chose between 80 locations and 162 self-guided walks, covering 201 miles in 11 regions!

Leicester

Did you know that Leicester is one of the oldest cities in the UK? The final resting place of King Richard III has a history going back over 2000 years and still has the biggest outdoor covered market to be found in the whole of Europe, and every autumn the city hosts the largest Diwali celebration outside of India. Choose between two self-guided heritage walks, both with a treasure hunt theme that both kids and adults will love.

York

There’s no doubt that York is one of the most popular cities for tourists and day-trippers, with over 30 museums and tourist attractions. Wander down The Shambles, believed to be the oldest street of shops in Europe, and wonder at the majesty of gothic architectural masterpiece York Minster. With the self-guided tours, you can go at your own pace and even discover some hidden gems. The optional treasure hunt encourages you to really take in your surroundings and learn something new about this beautiful city.

Aberdeen

The Scottish city of Aberdeen is full of architectural wonders, with majestic granite buildings, ancient churches and glorious galleries. Nestled between the River Don and the River Dee, the city is at once historic, modern and cosmopolitan. Explore the beautiful green open spaces and find out more about the cities haunted houses! The self-guided walks have an optional treasure hunt to keep everyone actively engaged, or you can just enjoy exploring the sights at a leisurely pace.

Portsmouth

The heart of maritime life in the UK, Portsmouth is known for being Britain’s more historical naval city. Still a thriving commercial ferry port and a major base for the Royal Navy, it’s also home to legendary ships like HMS Warrior, The Mary Rose and HMS Victory. There are two self-guided walks to choose from, and they’ve been designed so that the second one follows on where the first one ends (as are all the ones above).

With all of the self-guided walks from Curious About, you can either download a PDF to print off yourself at home, download a PDF to view straightway on your phone or tablet, or opt for a booklet that will be posted out to you.
